Do-It-Yourself CNC

Who doesn’t want to build their own CNC? Well, many people to be honest. It’s quite a bit of work and if you are lacking in experience, it’s very intimidating. I’ve got good news for you though.

It’s not that bad!

I’m not going to tell you that you should build one, but if you’re a creative type and love making things…well…maybe you SHOULD build one.

What’s it take?

Here’s a list. If there’s something you think is intimidating, I’ll try to have specific writeups or links. Google is your friend and there’s a bazillion youtube videos out there, but if you’re really lost just email me. I’m friendly, i swear!

  • Arduino Uno or Arduino Mega
  • CNC Shield
  • Stepper Motor Drivers
  • Stepper Motors
  • Rails
  • Timing Belt
  • Screw
  • Wires
  • USB Cable
  • Multimeter
  • Basic hand tools (screw driver, hex keys, saw?)

But for now I’ll leave you with this. https://wiki.shapeoko.com/

It’s an amazing source of information in the DIY CNC field, but it will leave you hungry for more information, especially if you’re not keen on software piracy and/or don’t have the money for the expensive design programs. FRET NOT! I’ll help you find what you need. :-)

I’ll post another entry later. Keep an eye in the categories for DIY CNC and you’ll hopefully find all the information you’ll need. Hopefully I’ll have some youtube videos to share as well.

Cheers!
